Since they were devised hundreds of years ago as a means of training sailors to work on tall ships, these audacious challenges have been popular now for over 30 years in the fields of management team and leadership development.
Requiring team members to take on a diversity of roles, some on the ground and some up to 10 metres up in the air, high ropes challenges are extremely effective for developing trust, teamworking, situational leadership skills, communication and coaching skills. They can also be a terrific ‘adrenalin rush’ and ideal conference energiser or ice-breaker activity.
All high ropes challenges are bound by a ‘challenge by choice’ rationale, team members choosing their roles and the scope of their individual challenge. Staff ensure not only that participants remain safe at all times, but also that no-one is pressured into any role or activity they do not wish to undertake.
It’s quite reasonable to assume that there is no safer or more time-effective means of developing teamworking leadership skills than the high ropes concept. |
